How IEEE will help SAE

IEEE has a group of EE students helping SAE design the following:

Push-button electronic shifter with digital fuel and ignition cutoff:
An embedded system is being developed to automate the shifting of the race car's transmission. The system should not only decrease the time needed to shift but also increase reliability and the longevity of the transmission.

Built-in steering-wheel display:
Digital displays will be used to show pertinent data like the engine's RPM, temperature, and current gear. The steering wheel will also have warning lights along with the switches for shifting.

Electronic engine RPM limiter:
A feedback control system will be used to automatically control the engine's RPM at the driver's discretion. The system will used throughout a race to optimize the car's performance and decrease the chances of engine failure.

Meetings vary, it would be best if you email Daniel Seiler, the Robotics Chair with your interests in joining the team. He will add you to the mailing list let you know when and where meetings will be held. Thanks!
